Feeding & Care

Do not feed birds fruit seeds, avocados, chocolate, onions, apple seeds, uncooked beans, uncooked rice, alcohol or caffeine as these can cause serious medical problems, and kill them.

A Maui Sunrise Macaw's diet should consist of 70% pellets, 30% fresh fruits & veggies.

They need a lot of daily social interaction so they can bond with your "flock" both direct face to face, and indirect just being around the family.

They can be very destructive which is why they need a variety of toys to keep them mentally stimulated, and from getting bored which can lead to self mutilation.

They need a variety of different sized perches to help exercise, and stretch their feet.

Description

Maui Sunrise Macaws are a 3rd generation hybrid which means both of it's parents were hybrid macaws. In this case a Harlequin Macaw, and a Catalina Macaw. The Maui Sunrise Macaw gets most of its personality traits from both of it's parents. These birds are very curious, and loving, but can be a bit stubborn at times.

They live 60 to 85 years, and some even older due to modern healthier diets, exercise, and mental stimulation. Macaws are not a parrot for first time bird owners, and a lot of thought, and consideration should go into the idea of getting one for a companion bird
